Youth skill development and vocational training for unemployed youth, especially females, remain a core priority of the organization. These programs have strengthened sustainable employment opportunities, reduced migration from rural areas, and significantly improved the socio-economic status of families. As a gender-sensitive initiative, female youth are placed at the center of the program, helping them build confidence and take on greater family responsibilities.
The focus of these initiatives is to ensure digital empowerment, skill enhancement, and long-term employment or self-employment for rural youth. As a result, trained participants — especially young women — are now contributing to their households financially and achieving economic independence.
The organization has provided computer and soft skill training to poor and unemployed youth,
including females, across Islampur, Nalanda, and Buxar districts of Bihar. The training centers
focus on digital literacy, communication skills, and job readiness, ensuring that participants
are prepared for both employment and self-employment opportunities.
The training has been highly job-oriented, enabling many youths to secure employment within and
outside the state. Several participants have also successfully started their own small ventures
after completing the program. Emphasis is also placed on job placement support, making the program
both impactful and sustainable.
Skill training on Stitching and Tailoring is one of the major initiatives toward women empowerment.
It is a highly job-oriented trade, particularly beneficial for Dalit girls and women who belong to
vulnerable and economically weaker sections. Considering the social and financial challenges faced
by these communities, the organization identified poor and needy women and provided them with a
6-month comprehensive training program in stitching and tailoring.
This program offers sustainable livelihood alternatives by equipping participants with practical
skills that enable them to earn through self-employment. Over time, the initiative has had a
significant impact on the Dalit community. It has empowered women who are inclined toward education,
improved their confidence, and helped them secure a respectable position within their families and
society. Many trained participants are now contributing to household income and are motivated to
pursue further education and personal growth.
Rural areas of Bihar face multiple challenges such as illiteracy, social evils, drought, lack of resources,
and absence of strong community leadership. These issues often leave the poor and deprived sections of
society without effective solutions.
To address this, SUGAM JAGRITI organizes continuous campaigns and advocacy programs focusing on critical
community issues such as declining child sex ratio, safe motherhood, prevention of violence against women,
right to education and information, and awareness of women’s legal rights. These efforts have empowered
marginalized communities to understand and claim their rights.
The organization uses various advocacy tools such as public rallies, awareness tours, signature campaigns,
rights-awareness camps, and submission of administrative memorandums. Additionally, awareness activities
are conducted on environmental conservation, saving the girl child, preventing child marriage, bird
protection, improving sex ratio, and promoting a clean and healthy community. These programs are often
organized on important social awareness days to ensure maximum impact.
Rapid urbanization and the excessive use of chemical fertilizers have severely affected agricultural land,
soil quality, and human health. High costs of seeds and fertilizers further discourage small farmers from
continuing farming activities.
Believing strongly in traditional and natural farming practices, SUGAM JAGRITI promotes organic agriculture
among farmers. Through its dedicated project, the organization trains farmers in organic farming
techniques, natural manure preparation, low-cost input usage, soil fertility improvement, and water-level
conservation.
Farmers are trained in organic farming methods, natural pesticide and manure preparation, and traditional
seed preservation. These sessions are conducted at the organization’s training campus through workshops,
chaupals, and practical demonstrations. The initiative plays a significant role in restoring traditional
farming practices and ensuring sustainable agriculture for future generations.
Every year, numerous cases of violence against women are reported in Nalanda district of Bihar. To address this growing concern, SUGAM JAGRITI conducts extensive campaigns, workshops, and community interactions involving students, PRI members, and local communities. These efforts aim to create a safer, more aware, and gender-sensitive society.
Under the project, the villagers are trained for Vermi Posting, treatment of animal diseases, vaccination. Moreover, the stockmen are taught proper feeding and better ways to look after the stock under the project.
India, being the second-most populous country in the world, faces increasing environmental challenges such as land degradation, declining soil fertility, extreme weather events, and rising food insecurity. Tree plantation has become one of the most effective solutions to mitigate climate change, restore biodiversity, and improve the well-being of communities.
Trees help absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, act as natural air purifiers, and contribute significantly to climate regulation. Their roots prevent soil erosion, improve moisture retention, and enhance soil fertility—leading to healthier agricultural lands and improved crop productivity. Tree plantation also restores degraded ecosystems and supports wildlife habitats, promoting ecological balance.
Sugam Jagriti has taken the mission “To plant 10,000 trees” in the Islampur block of Nalanda district to combat climate change, protect biodiversity, and ensure a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future. The focus is on planting native species, creating community awareness, and ensuring long-term care of planted saplings.
Deep-rooted social prejudices and lack of awareness have severely impacted the lives of Leprosy and TB-affected individuals in rural Bihar. A total of 290 affected persons urgently require support, as they are often neglected by both family and community, leading to emotional distress, low confidence, and poor living conditions.
In many villages, misconceptions and fear surrounding these diseases result in social exclusion. Affected individuals struggle to access healthcare, nutritious food, clothing, and essential support. Government healthcare initiatives are limited in rural areas, and due to poverty, most patients cannot afford adequate nourishment or warm clothing—especially during winter.
Myths, ignorance, and stigma prevent patients from receiving care and acceptance from their families and communities. Healthcare infrastructure and timely treatment for leprosy and TB remain insufficient in rural Bihar. The lack of food, proper clothing, warmth, and medical attention worsens their condition, often forcing them to live in misery and indignity.
